Homeowners often wonder about the right place to install their new HVAC system. When it comes to heating and cooling Monroe County Michigan, there are several places in your home where your HVAC can be installed and function perfectly. Do you plan to have your HVAC in the attic? This decision has several advantages and disadvantages. However, this article will highlight the dangers of AC installation in the attic.

Heating and Cooling Monroe County Michigan: Cons of AC Installation in the Attic

Just as there are different sides to a coin, so there are pros and cons for your decision to have your HVAC installed in the attic. Before you consider moving your AC upstairs, here are a few considerations. Aside, you can discuss with professional heating and cooling Monroe County Michigan, for further recommendations.

    1. Uninsulated Ducts are Inefficient

Up in the attic, bare ducts can be seen running everywhere. This may seem convenient for cleaning and installation. However, a lack of insulation can cause issues for the system. Exposed ducts mean that the air in them is vulnerable to ambient temperature inside the attic.

This implies that cooled air will get warmer and heated air get cool down. In this case, the air that gets to your vents will not have the same temperature as it left the unit. This condition will make your system work with high pressure to compensate for lost energy in the attic. This could lead to a rise in your heating bills. To avoid this, ensure that your ducts are well insulated.

    2. Accessibility

When it comes to HVAC maintenance, accessibility is the key. Some attics are spacious; maintenance should be easy for these types. But for those attics that are small, cramped, and difficult to get in, it could be a real issue for maintenance reasons. As a rule of thumb, a technician is supposed to service your HVAC annually. This service ensures that your HVAC systems are running better and more efficiently. Also, your ducts should be fully cleaned every 3-5 years. If the space is too small, it may be difficult for your HVAC technician to get into the attic for routine maintenance.

    3. Condensation

HVAC systems create a lot of condensation in heating or cooling the air. The condensation is supposedly collected in a pan placed under the unit and runs through a drainage line to the outside. However, when the drainage line gets clogged, it can cause water to build up in the pan and overflow. This could damage the pan or get it cracked, giving the water a chance to drip under the unit. You could have a clogged drain if you see water dripping from above. Your technician must visit the attic to fix the issue before it worsens.

    Conclusion

Now, you might start wondering if the attic’s HVAC installation is the best for you. The best place to install your heating and cooling Monroe County Michigan depends on your home, preferences, and situation. This could be a good position for HVAC installation for homes with a basement. However, if your unit can be accessible and the ducts well insulated, the attic could be a good place for the installation.
